    Community Overview

Maine is known for its best quality of life, being the safest state in the USA, and for its air quality. Portland is recognized as the most livable city in the country. This is a fabulous place to practice and to raise a family, in a state known as Vacationland - for good reason. Here, your downtime can be as active or as relaxing as you choose - from sailing along a rugged coastline dotted with lighthouses to hiking and cycling through rolling, scenic trails, to teeing off on exceptional golf courses or spending winter weekends on pristine ski slopes.

Greater Portland is home to over half a million residents and offers a rare blend of coastal beauty and urban energy. The city combines small-town charm with a vibrant cultural scene anchored in the historic Old Port, where cobblestone streets lead to galleries, boutiques, and award-winning restaurants. Its food scene draws national attention, and this year Portland earned a Travelers Choice Best Food Destination award. Recognized as one of America's most beautiful small cities - and recently named the coziest city in America for its autumn charm - Portland offers excellent public schools, welcoming neighborhoods, and abundant recreation just minutes from home.

Whether your ideal day off means exploring farmers markets, dining harborside, catching a show, or escaping to the nearby mountains or islands, you will find it here. From Portland, it is easy to travel anywhere. The convenient International Jetport offers direct flights to major hubs, and the scenic Downeaster train connects to Boston and beyond. Regular ferry service takes visitors from downtown to several picturesque islands in Casco Bay.

Explore this coastal gem and discover all Portland can offer you and your family.
