    Executive Medical Director, Cancer Institute

    AdventHealth is seeking an experienced and visionary physician leader to serve as Executive Medical Director (EMD) of the AdventHealth Cancer Institute (AHCI). This individual will spearhead the continued growth of our regional oncology program, build upon our national partnership, and collaborate closely with physician leaders in our region to expand access to advanced, patient-centered cancer care. This is a unique opportunity to play a pivotal role in shaping and growing oncology services lines and expanding into other subspecialized tumor sites.

    Through our affiliation with the UChicago Medicine Cancer Network, a National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center ranked No. 12 nationally by U.S. News & World Report, the Executive Medical Director will help bring world-class treatments, research, and clinical trials to patients across the Mid-America Region for AdventHealth.

    Job Description

    • Lead the strategic growth and performance of cancer services across the Mid-America Region, which encompasses four hospitals and multiple clinics in the Kansas City area.
    • Partner with physician leaders and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, integrated, and cost-effective care.
    • Advance research and innovation by expanding access to clinical trials and fostering academic partnerships.
    • Strengthen referral networks and enhance market presence while ensuring alignment with AdventHealth's mission and values.
    • Dedicate the majority of time to leadership responsibilities while maintaining some clinical practice in area of specialty interest.

    Requirements

    • Charismatic, credible, and collaborative leader
    • Proven ability to mentor physicians and foster teamwork across specialties and care sites
    • Strong communication, relationship-building, and strategic planning skills
    • Knowledge of regulatory standards and value-based cancer care delivery
    • Ten or more years of oncology (or related subspecialty) practice experience
    • Demonstrated success leading a nationally recognized cancer program
    • Board certified in area(s) of training
    • Ability to obtain Kansas physician licensure
    • Clinical research experience, including principal investigator roles and recent publications
    • Certified clinical trials investigator

    AdventHealth Shawnee Mission, located in Merriam, Kansas, is a 504-bed acute care hospital serving the Kansas City metro area, particularly Johnson County. Formerly Shawnee Mission Medical Center, it joined the AdventHealth network in 2019, guided by a mission to provide faith-based, whole-person care that nurtures physical, emotional, and spiritual health.
