Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner
Join our team at Anabranch Recovery Center in Terre Haute, Indiana, as a full-time Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner. This role is essential in providing general medical or psychological care and treatment to patients under the direction of a physician, according to scope of practice guidelines.
Job Description
- Perform history, physical examinations, and preventive health measures or initial psychological exams, admissions, and discharges on assigned patients.
- Provide consultation and liaison throughout the hospital facility.
- Perform daily rounds on patients as directed by the supervising physician.
- Prescribe medications and provide clinical assessments and diagnosis.
- Conduct individual, group, and family therapy.
- Work collaboratively with the medical/clinical staff under the guidelines of state licensure for Nurse Practitioners.
Requirements
- Master of Science in Nursing with Family Nurse Practitioner Specialty degree or Master of Science in Nursing with Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Specialty degree from an accredited school of nursing required.
- One or more years' experience as an RN with the patient population of the facility line of business required.
- Must be dual certified in Indiana.
- Current Nurse Practitioner license required, per state regulations/requirements; may also require a current DEA license.
Role Responsibilities
- Gather, develop, and evaluate age-appropriate history and physical (H&P) or psychological patient data in collaboration with the patient, family, and healthcare team for physician's use in treating patients according to scope of practice.
- Assess and reassess physical, psychosocial, or psychological and cultural needs of patients and formulate measures to meet patient needs.
- Establish priorities in planning and organizing patient care based on H&P assessment or initial psychological evaluation.
- Participate in the formulation of patient Master Treatment Plans.
- Encourage family involvement in patient care and respond to identified patient and family educational needs.
- Assist in patient teaching as needed.
- Diagnose and treat acute, episodic, or chronic illness, independently or as part of a healthcare team.
- Document pertinent data including assessment, interventions, and evaluations. Chart clinical observation (direct or through dictation), evaluations, and treatment of patients in required time according to facility guidelines.
- Collaborate with physicians and other staff on establishing realistic outcome goals as needed.
- Implement appropriate healthcare interventions as needed, using appropriate guidelines of Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) prescriptive practice or Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP) prescriptive practice.
- Prepare discharge summaries for physician review.
- Under physician collaborative practice agreement as a Family Nurse Practitioner with prescriptive privileges, call permissible medication to pharmacies.
- Collaborate with medical nutrition therapy staff to evaluate intake/output; calorie counts, mechanical difficulties in chewing/swallowing/digesting food as necessary (FNP).
- Provide on-call responsibilities on a scheduled basis directed by medical staff.
- Focus on health promotion and disease prevention. Order, perform, or interpret diagnostic tests such as lab work and x-rays. May prescribe medication within scope of practice guidelines.
