Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner opening in Oregon. Located in Redmond, just 10 minutes from Bend, this is a full-time position.
Job Description
- Provide psychiatric care to patients in a primary care clinic setting, including diagnosing, triaging, and prescribing medications for a complex patient population with behavioral and mental health diagnoses.
- Develop treatment plans and provide brief intervention strategies for patients.
- Collaborate and consult with medical providers, behavioral health consultants, mental health providers, and other care partners to ensure safe, effective, and high-quality treatment for patients.
- Examine, diagnose, and treat acute and chronic mental health conditions.
- Advocate for patients by coordinating the use of the entire healthcare system to benefit the patient, referring to specialty providers when necessary.
- Work with the clinical team and community partners to optimize patient care access.
- Deliver patient care within approved HRSA service locations, including patient homes and community-based sites. Home-based care may also be provided as necessary, adhering to defined services and safety protocols. Local travel required.
Standards of Practice
- Use current evidence-based guidelines to create diagnostic and treatment plans, utilizing resources such as "Up to Date."
- Provide care that reflects healthcare cost consciousness and addresses social determinants of health.
- Effectively utilize a team-based care model, leveraging the expertise of all multi-disciplinary team members.
- Act as a patient educator, utilizing tools (e.g., EHR, online resources, written materials, MyChart messages, etc.) to effectively communicate information regarding diagnoses, treatment options, disease prevention, safe health behaviors, self-care skills, and health promotion.
Documentation and Indirect Patient Care
- Maintain accurate electronic health records of patients and complete documentation in a timely manner.
- Exhibit critical thinking in documentation.
- Respond to patient telephone calls and MyChart messages promptly.
- Accurately code patient charts to ensure correct billing.
- Utilize EHR tools (e.g., "FYI," problem-based charting, etc.) to enable other clinical team members to effectively care for patients.
Skills & Knowledge
- Experience working with low-income populations preferred.
- Strong computer skills, including typing and keyboarding, required.
- Excellent customer service skills with the ability to effectively and respectfully manage dissatisfied patients.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
- Knowledge of health insurance plans is beneficial.
- Strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to train and educate staff.
- Familiarity with standard office policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of regulatory requirements, including CLIA and OSHA standards.
- Proficiency with practice management software is essential.

Qualifications
Education (Required)
- Master's degree or higher in Nursing or related field.
Experience (Required)
- Minimum of three years of experience in a primary care setting.
Licenses & Certifications (Required)
- CPR certification
- DEA certificate
- Valid driver’s license
- Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner (NP) certification
