Community Overview

The Georgia Club is a great place to live. It's always a treat to work in my adopted hometown, where I attended the University of Georgia. Athens is often recognized as one of the great places to live in America, with numerous mentions in top places to retire and live in Money and Kiplinger magazines. Sometimes we are mentioned as the best place to practice medicine in America.

North Metro Atlanta is about 30 minutes from Athens, with Buckhead being a bit more than an hour from South Athens. The University of Georgia, with its 38,000 students, is the core of our community. Athens is a metro area of over 300,000 with a medical draw population of more than half a million. The medical community offers all services except transplants and will soon be home to part of the Medical College of Georgia.

Athens is the town that gave the world R.E.M., The B-52s, Wide Spread Panic, and boasts over 400 other bands and more than a dozen recording studios. Our entire downtown offers free Wi-Fi, a thriving arts community, and a top university with twenty-one Division I sports teams, both men's and women's, with over twelve National Championships and over thirty SEC Championships. The University is home to the NCAA Tennis Hall of Fame.
