Gastroenterology Locums Inpatient Consult Service
A Level II trauma center is seeking a Gastroenterologist for inpatient consult coverage beginning March 2026. This opportunity is 100% inpatient with no clinic or outpatient responsibilities and focuses on consultative GI care.
Job Description
- Start Date: March 2, 2026
- Coverage Type: 24-hour call while scheduled
- Shift Schedule:
- 7-day blocks
- 7:00 AM to 6:59 AM (24-hour coverage)
Available Coverage Dates
- March 2, 2026 to March 9, 2026
- April 27, 2026 to May 4, 2026
- September 28, 2026 to October 5, 2026
- November 16, 2026 to November 23, 2026
- November 30, 2026 to December 7, 2026
Clinical Responsibilities
- Daily morning rounding on all consulted patients
- 24/7 call coverage during scheduled week
- Inpatient consult service only (no outpatient clinic)
- Average 6 to 8 consults per day
- Typical inpatient GI census: 15
- Hospital census approximately: 250
Case Mix
- Predominantly bread and butter GI
- GI bleeds
- Occasional liver disease
- No ERCP or EUS required
Practice Environment
- GI functions as a consult-only service
- Sound Physicians is the primary admitting service
- ICU/CCU patients managed by intensivist team
- Surgical and Interventional Radiology backup available
- Anesthesia provides sedation for all endoscopic procedures
- Efficient enterprise transfer process if higher-level care is needed
Support & Technology
- APP support for daily rounding and documentation
- Olympus scopes (approximately 3 years old)
- Provation endoscopy documentation software
- EPIC EMR
