Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner

Orthopedic Nurse Practitioner needed in Massachusetts. This position is for a locum tenens role with a target start date of April 13, 2026, and a contract length of 13 weeks, ongoing.

Job Description

• Schedule: Monday to Friday (within 3-4 week assignment blocks)
• 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM clinic days (8-hour shifts)
• 3-4 days per week; schedule is flexible
• Call required:
  • Evening call: 5:00 PM to 8:00 AM
  • Weekend call: Saturday morning to Monday morning
• Call consists primarily of phone triage with occasional in-person consults

Practice Details

• Setting: Orthopedic service within a small rural hospital and outpatient clinic
• Patient volume: Patients per day
• Patient population: Adults
• Hospital bed size: 19
• EMR: Epic

Clinical Scope

• Combination of clinic and surgical first assist
• Typical weekly structure:
  • 2 days in clinic
  • 1 day in OR (only if surgeries are scheduled)
  • If no surgeries occur, provider remains in clinic
• Common conditions include:
  • Ankle injuries
  • Achilles tendon issues
  • Elbow and knee injuries
  • Rotator cuff and shoulder conditions
  • Carpal tunnel
• No total joint replacements
• OR responsibilities include first assist for day surgeries

Requirements

• Board Certification: Orthopedics (NP-C)
• License: Active Massachusetts license required (not willing to license)
• Certifications: BLS
• Minimum Experience: At least 1 year of orthopedic experience
• EMR Experience: Epic required
• Credentialing Timeframe: 90 days

Travel

• Travel support available (flight, hotel, rental car)
• Preference for providers who do not require flights

Nantucket, Massachusetts, small rural orthopedic practice environment; local or travel candidates welcome.
