    Surgical Breast Reconstruction APP (Nurse Practitioner)

    Join our team in California as a Surgical Breast Reconstruction APP in a large academic hospital environment focused on surgical breast reconstruction and oncology care. This position offers a full-time, 26-week assignment with a potential ongoing need.

    Job Description

    • Coverage type: Scheduled clinical hours only, no call
    • Shift structure: 4 days a week (Tuesday to Friday), 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
    • Hospital-based surgical oncology and outpatient reconstructive surgery
    • High volume breast reconstruction service
    • Patient population primarily consists of adults and geriatrics, with occasional older adolescents
    • Support team includes MAs, RNs, APPs, and surgeons
    • Typically 2 to 4 surgical cases per day in the OR
    • Inpatient service: 2 to 8 patients depending on census
    • Predominantly breast reconstruction following mastectomy, including tissue expansions, wound care, and management of reconstructive patients
    • Small subset of non-breast plastic cases (e.g., closures), but the majority are reconstruction
    • Clinical responsibilities include first assisting in reconstructive breast surgery, post-operative management, tissue expansion, wound management, and related oncology/plastic surgery tasks
    • Requires suturing and core OR skills
    • Flexible movement between OR and inpatient unit based on daily needs
    • No floor-based procedures required beyond standard wound care

    Requirements

    • Role: Physician Assistant Surgical Oncology / Plastic Surgery
    • Education: Master's degree in Physician Assistant Studies (required)
    • Experience: Strongly prefer surgical breast reconstruction experience; will consider other surgical oncology backgrounds; must have recent (1 to 5 years) relevant OR or outpatient surgical experience; high volume oncology experience preferred
    • License: Active California PA license required (not willing to license)
    • Certifications: BLS (AHA), DEA California with Schedule II required
    • Skills: Strong OR first assist competency, strong inpatient management skills, efficient in high volume surgical oncology practice
