    Midcareer Trauma Surgeon with Research Leadership Focus

    The Division of Trauma Surgery at Banner - University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP) is seeking a midcareer Trauma and Acute Care Surgeon with a strong track record in clinical research and academic leadership. This unique role combines high-volume clinical care with the opportunity to shape research strategy and mentor trainees in an academic, multidisciplinary environment.

    Job Description

    • Academic appointment at the University of Arizona College of Medicine - Phoenix, commensurate with experience.
    • Key focus on clinical research development, fellowship program support, and trauma program advancement.
    • Collaborate in a multidisciplinary team environment with high acuity trauma, acute care, and critical care patients.
    • Contribute to the academic development of medical students, residents, and fellows through teaching and mentorship.

    Requirements

    • Board Certified in General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care
    • Fellowship training in Trauma, Acute Care, and Surgical Critical Care
    • Minimum of 5 years post-fellowship experience
    • Active or eligible Arizona medical license and DEA registration
    • ATLS Instructor certification
    • Demonstration of research leadership with recent (within last 3 years) publications, academic activity, and professional society involvement
    • Prior Academic or Teaching Excellence Awards
    • Strong commitment to education, collaboration, and health equity

    Additional Desired Skill Qualifications

    • Chest wall stabilization (Rib Plating)
    • Robotic Surgery
    • Video Assisted Thoracoscopic Surgery (VATS) or Thoracotomy
    • Percutaneous Endoscopic Gastrostomy (PEG) Tube
    • Abdominal Wall Reconstruction
    • Cutaneous Grafting
    • Tracheostomy
    • Cricothyroidotomy

    Practice Details

    • Multidisciplinary team providing care across Trauma Surgery, Emergency General Surgery, Surgical Critical Care, and Outpatient Follow-up Clinics
    • Participation in Emergency, Trauma surgery, and ICU calls (180 shifts annually)
    • Adult Level 1 ACS Verified and State Designated Trauma Center
    • Donor Care Center - uniquely housed within and managed by our critical care team
    • Affiliation with the University of Arizona College of Medicine-Phoenix Research Institution
