Job Description
- The Nursing Professional Development (NPD) Practitioner is a Registered Nurse (RN) who influences professional role competence and professional growth in an interprofessional environment that facilitates continuous development and learning for healthcare professionals.
- The NPD Practitioner implements the tools, skills, and knowledge of the specialty to improve healthcare practice of learners through seven distinct roles: learning facilitator, change agent, mentor, leader, champion for scientific inquiry, advocate for role development, and partner for collaboration and practice transitions.
Responsibilities

Facilitator of Learning
a. Develop and evaluate core curricula
b. Assess learning needs through assessment and analysis of feedback outcomes
c. Lead experiential learning activities through innovative teaching and learning methods. -
Change Agent
- Foster acceptance, adoption, and action toward change.

Mentor and Leader
a. Validates clinical performance
b. Establish effective communication networks with unit and organizational leadership. -
Champion Scientific Inquiry
- Create a supportive environment for nursing research, evidence-based practice, quality improvement, and integrating into clinical practice.

Advocate for Role Development
a. Facilitate orientation processes, nurse residency program, and role transitions with a focus on retention and growth.
b. Develops, coordinates, and evaluates competency programs and identifies deficiencies in staff competency. -
Partner for Collaboration and Practice Transitions
a. Collaborates with interprofessional teams, leaders, stakeholders, and others to facilitate nursing practice and positive outcomes both internally and within the community.
b. Partners with shared governance councils at the unit and system level to effect nursing practice and generate positive outcomes. -
All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor Degree Nursing (BSN) required
- Credential(s): Registered Nurse (RN), Basic Life Support (BLS), Certification related to the position, if applicable
- Experience: Minimum of 3 years of relevant clinical RN nursing experience
Preferred Education, Credential(s), and Experience
- Education: Master Degree Nursing (MSN)
- Credential(s): Nursing Professional Development (NPD) board certification
- Experience: 5 or more years of relevant clinical nursing experience, 3 of those years in a teaching/precepting role
