Job Description
- Assume responsibility for a group of patients for a designated time frame and provide care utilizing the nursing process, trends, technology, and resources.
- Perform all responsibilities and duties required by the unit specific to the scope of service.
- Implement procedures and theories related to the specific area of practice.
- Maintain up-to-date and accurate documentation of nursing care provided to assure integration of information for the healthcare team.
- Complete initial assessments upon patient admission and develop appropriate plans of care based on patient and family needs.
- Implement plans of care, nursing interventions, and patient care procedures.
- Modify plans of care based on continuous evaluation.
- Take responsibility for patient and employee safety by reporting and/or correcting safety hazards and incidents.
- Communicate directly and privately when necessary to resolve issues.
- Offer constructive feedback to assist in the professional development of peers and confer with colleagues to expand knowledge.
- Identify own learning needs and take initiative to begin appropriate solutions.
- Fulfill all requirements of departmental competencies.
- Receive patient Bedside Shift Report from an RN at the beginning of each shift, ensuring inclusion of patient input and visual validation of a safe patient room environment.
- Delegate patient care tasks/responsibilities to assigned HCTrs and validate completion of delegated tasks throughout the shift.
- Complete and document basic RN patient care activities such as assessments, interpretation of vital signs, ensure physician order completion, admission/discharge of patients, hourly rounding, care plan documentation, and patient education.
- Meet Carle Med/Surg RN documentation standards for each assigned patient.
- Provide patient medications utilizing the patient 5 Rights: Right Patient, Right Medication, Right Route, Right Dose, and Right Time.
- Maintain patient safety as the highest priority level by ensuring compliance with safety measures such as fall precautions, pressure ulcer prevention, isolation precautions, and patient ambulation safety.
- Maintain a positive attitude that promotes a healthy work environment and a healing patient environment.
- Focus on prompt answering of patient call lights to ensure effective triage and completion of patient requests/medical needs.
- Use critical thinking to evaluate overall patient condition and nursing judgment to identify and act on changes in patient status.
- Effectively communicate within the healthcare team to promote interdisciplinary collaboration, effective patient care coordination, and patient safety.
Requirements
- Licensed Registered Professional Nurse (RN) - Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 30 days - American Heart Association (AHA).
- College Diploma in Nursing.

- Comprehensive benefits package including competitive compensation ranging from $33.68 per hour to $57.93 per hour.
