Pharmacy Technician

Assists the inpatient pharmacy department staff in accomplishing the goals of efficiently dispensing medications through preparation of bulk and batch sterile products (IV solutions); providing drugs and supplies to nursing stations and all associated functions that are entailed in that process, and producing accurate patient charges.

Job Description

Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent is required
• Must maintain current registration with the NM Board of Pharmacy
• Effective verbal and interpersonal skills are required
• Basic computer skills are required
• Familiarity with medical terminology, basic math, and reading comprehension skills are preferred
• Hospital experience is preferred

Environment

• Responsible to: Director, Pharmacy
• Occasional exposure to bloodborne pathogens and potential infectious materials
• Close quarters in a busy environment with low risk for infectious disease
• Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals, allergenic drug products, and needle sticks
• Moderate exposure to video display terminals

Physical Requirements

• Must be able to move throughout the hospital at a rapid pace for the entire shift
• Hearing must be sufficient to answer telephones and eyesight must be sufficient to read requisitions
• Hand-eye coordination must be sufficient to perform aseptic technique
• Must be able to raise a moderate load (less than 50 lbs.) using sound body mechanics alone or with assistance
