Job Description

Perform specimen collection and patient preparation, ensuring correct patient and specimen identification and specimen integrity by using appropriate techniques as required. Aliquot and label specimens according to established departmental procedures and practices, deliver specimens to the technical area in a timely manner, and/or perform initial processing and preparation of samples for transport. Transport patient specimens and/or patients, per guidelines.

Perform registration processes, including collecting insurance information, verifying coverage of Advanced Beneficiary Notices, and obtaining authorizations and signatures. Verify patient demographics, insurance, and diagnostic test information. Enter data into appropriate systems to ensure accurate documentation and billing.

Focus on quality by assuring that all work performed is accurate and complete. Initiate computer-generated reports as required for patient reporting and quality assurance monitoring. Complete documents and records legibly and accurately per site protocol. Maintain familiarity with departmental procedures. Use appropriate documentation to record communications.

Communicate with physicians, clinical and hospital staff, nursing, and Health Information Management Services to resolve outstanding issues and/or patient concerns.

Maintain laboratory equipment. Maintain a clean, safe work environment and make appropriate reagents/bleach. Perform other technical support functions as determined by the department. Troubleshoot routine problems within their area of responsibility.

May perform assigned patient testing. May perform collections for drug and alcohol screening, following chain of custody protocols.
Requirements

High school diploma/GED or equivalent working knowledge.

BLS certification required upon hire.

Must be able to communicate effectively in both oral and written formats. May be required to possess a valid driver's license and be eligible for coverage under the company auto insurance policy.
Preferred Qualifications

Previous experience of at least six months in a clinical laboratory setting or completion of phlebotomy school.

Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

Compensation: $20 hourly wage

- Full-time, 40 hours per week, 4x10-hour shifts
- Part-time, 24 hours per week
- Per Diem (as needed)

Additional Information
Phlebotomy certification will be required within 6 months of hire.
