General Surgery Locums Job

Jackson and Coker is partnered with a facility in central Virginia - a little under a 1.5 hour drive to Richmond that needs General Surgery call coverage support starting this November and ongoing. The client's ideal candidate would be a physician that is somewhat local and able to drive; however, they're open to reviewing candidates that need full travel as well. They are seeking one physician to add into their call coverage rotation and to cover both sets of dates, listed below. Going into 2026, they anticipate needing between 4-7 days per month of coverage ongoing.

Job Description

• Dates of Coverage:

  • Monday, November 17 at 7 AM - Friday, November 21 at 7 AM
  • Monday, December 22 at 7 AM - Friday, December 26 at 7 AM (Premium holiday pay of 1.5x standard daily rate for coverage on 12/25 - Christmas Day)

• Active and unrestricted Virginia license + DEA required

• Board Certification and/or true Eligibility required for this opportunity

• 75+ bed facility, not a designated trauma center, Cerner EMR, located a little over an hour from Richmond

• Bread & Butter General Surgery including laparoscopic cases

• There are no scoping opportunities or requirements for this assignment

• May have light trauma mixed in; there is opportunity for more advanced laparoscopic cases

• Will see an average of 18-20 patients per day in clinic, have 1-2 new ED admissions per day, do 3-7 surgeries per week (this will likely increase in time)

• Dates will be ongoing into 2026
