Job Description
- Diagnose and treat diseases of and injuries to the genitourinary system and the reproductive system.
- Diagnose and treat the full range of obstetrical and gynecological cases.
- Place IUDs.
- Manage routine and complicated antenatal patients.
- Perform vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections.
- Conduct routine pelvic exams.
- Evaluate abnormal Pap smears (Colposcopy).
- Perform routine GYN surgery such as abdominal and vaginal hysterectomy, operative laparoscopic treatment.
- Conduct office procedures such as endometrial biopsy, routine OB ultrasounds, and rotating OB/GYN on-call services.
- Perform physical examinations and determine if the standards of AR 40-501 are met.
- Consult with and advise referring physicians on the diagnosis and treatment of patients.
- See patients as scheduled by the Medical Treatment Facility, ensuring continuous patient flow with initial visits lasting 1/2 hour and follow-up visits lasting 15-20 minutes.
- Provide obstetrics and gynecology care to eligible beneficiaries, referring long-term care and follow-up to the appropriate clinic.
- Refer patients requiring urgent treatment or stabilization of life-threatening conditions to the Emergency Room.
- Present stable patients requiring admission or same-day specialty clinic consultation to the patient's primary care manager or appropriate specialty service.
- Perform treatment at BJACH except in unusual instances when patients are referred to other institutions for special diagnostic procedures or definitive care not offered at BJACH.
- Familiarize with the hospital formulary and prescribe pharmaceuticals according to the availability of drugs listed therein.
- Advise the COR of any problems encountered in connection with meeting the needs of patients treated.
Requirements
- Must have and maintain a valid, unrestricted license to practice medicine from one of the 50 states, District of Columbia, Puerto Rico, or US Virgin Islands and a current Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) registration number.
- Must hold a Doctor of Medicine (M.D.) degree from an accredited college approved by the Council on Medical Education and Hospitals of the American Medical Association or American Osteopathic Association, or Doctor of Osteopathy degree (D.O.) from a college accredited by the American Osteopathic Association.
