Job Description

• Work collaboratively with clinical teams in managing cardiac surgery patients in the pre-operative, peri-operative, post-operative, and outpatient environments.
• Collect data pertinent to the patient's health and situation including interpreting diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient's status, and performing minor surgical procedures (such as vein harvesting).
• Formulate a treatment plan for cardiac problems within scope of practice. Implement therapeutic intervention for specific conditions when appropriate. Exercise judgment on problems requiring consultation, referral, or evaluation by the supervising cardiac surgeon or other health care professionals.
• Compare and contrast clinical findings, normal and abnormal variations in formulating a diagnosis.
• Identify assessment, diagnostic strategies, and therapeutic interventions within the plan that reflect current evidence, including data, research, literature, and expert clinical knowledge; collaborate with physician on the plan as needed.
• Care directly for clients and help manage complex patients. Promote patient engagement by explaining treatment plan, identifying and addressing any expected obstacles.
• Participate in the quality and patient satisfaction review process, incorporating feedback into improvement plans and associated quality forums. Use quality data to enhance effectiveness of care delivery.
• Use current health care research findings and other evidence to expand clinical knowledge, enhancing role performance and increasing knowledge of professional issues.
• Participate in group call duties, including night and weekend coverage.

Requirements

• Graduate of accredited Physician Assistant School.
• 2+ years of related cardiac surgery clinical experience.
• Current License as a Physician Assistant.
