    Internal Medicine Physician

    Under indirect supervision, provides and manages direct medical evaluation, diagnosis, procedures, and care for patients within a recognized area of practice, or for a specified patient population.

    Responsible for meeting, assessing, and diagnosing patients in the clinic as well as inpatient care in St. Lucie County, FL, and providing them with healthcare services that meet state and national standards for caregiving.

    Responsible for prescribing patients with appropriate medication, health regimens, and lifestyle adjustments that will contribute to their recovery from diagnosed health issues, prevent future health issues, and/or promote a healthier life.

    Job Description

    • Provides and manages direct patient care, including physician examinations, evaluations, assessments, diagnoses, and treatment for a specified patient population.
    • Prescribes pharmaceuticals, other medications, and treatment regimens as appropriate to assessed medical conditions.
    • Refers patients to specialists and to relevant patient care components as appropriate.
    • Manages the daily operations of a medical office.
    • Directs and coordinates the patient care activities of nursing and support staff as required.
    • Follows established policies, procedures, and objectives, continuous quality improvements objectives, and safety, environmental, and/or infection control standards.
    • Participates in specified health promotion, education, and/or infection control standards as appropriate to the position.
    • Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.
    • Examines and treats patients with a wide range of conditions and refers those with serious ailments to a specialist or appropriate facility.
    • Typical job duties include:
      • Taking patient histories
      • Performing or requesting diagnostic tests
      • Making diagnoses
      • Prescribing treatment
      • Administering vaccinations and performing follow-up examinations
      • Educating patients in disease prevention and health maintenance
      • Preparing medical records, clinical reports, and correspondences. Commit to delivering quality health services to patients of diverse cultural, ethnic, and economic backgrounds.
    • Provides quality care to patients according to clinical medical protocols and funding source guidelines.
    • Initiates an appropriate assessment of patients' health status, ranging from focused to comprehensive, depending upon the setting.
    • Provides and manages comprehensive medical care, including diagnosis and nonsurgical treatment of diseases, common health problems such as infections, influenza, and pneumonia as well as serious chronic and complex illnesses for patients of all ages.
    • Monitors patients' conditions and progress and reevaluates treatments as necessary.
    • Explains procedures and discusses test results or prescribed treatments with patients.
    • Advises patients and community members concerning diet, activity, hygiene, and disease prevention and educates patients about preventative measures to avoid illnesses.
    • Collects, records, and maintains patient information such as medical history, reports, and examination results and prepares reports and correspondence related to the work.
    • Refers patients to medical specialists or other practitioners when necessary.
    • Prescribes medication in accordance with Florida statutes and professional practice guidelines.
    • Immunizes patients to protect them from preventable diseases.
    • Participates in formulating, interpreting, implementing, and evaluating objectives, policies, and procedures.
    • Assists with quality improvement activities as required and participates in Quality Assurance and Utilization Reviews.
    • Performs diagnostic tests and procedures and therapeutic procedures within the scope of practice, including but not limited to venipuncture; intradermal tests; intramuscular and subcutaneous injections; electrocardiogram; application of dressings and bandages; administration of medications; cardiopulmonary resuscitation; auditory screening; visual screening; and aseptic techniques.
    • Analyzes accumulated health information and collects additional observational, interview, historical, physical examination, and diagnostic data, modifying treatment as appropriate.
    • Has a working knowledge of ICD10, CPT, and HCPCS coding and managed care, and is available for training as necessary.
    • Maintains and completes patient health records or charts legibly, concisely, and closes them within 48 hours or by the end of the service week.

    Requirements

    • Keep up all licenses and board certifications as required. Keep up with CME as required.
    • Successful completion of an accredited Internal Medicine Residency and Fellowship in Infectious Disease with 3 or more years of experience.
    • Current D.E.A. certificate.
    • Previous experience in a hospital and/or clinic setting.
    • Understanding of Florida mandated reporting laws.
    • Ability to relate to culturally diverse patients and communities.
    • Doctor of Medicine (MD or DO).
    • Must possess a Medical License MD or DO in Florida.
    • Valid DEA license in the State of Florida.
    • Comfortable with seeing up to 15-18 patients per day.
    • Prior experience or interest in treating and diagnosing HIV/AIDS clients in an inpatient and/or outpatient setting.
    • Must obtain AAHIVM Certification within 18 months of hire.
    • Current CPR/BLS (Cardio Pulmonary Resuscitation) is required.

    Regulatory Requirements

    Candidate should be an MD or DO physician, board-certified in Internal Medicine and Board Certified or eligible in Infectious Diseases, with a desire to perform primary care services in addition to HIV/PrEP/STI services to a predominantly LGBTQ patient population. Prior outpatient experience in this area is desired but not mandatory. Candidate should be licensed to practice in the State of Florida with no restrictions on current or prior license. DEA License is required.

    Physical Demands

    Work is normally performed in a typical health clinic work environment, and/or inpatient setting which may or may not subject the employee to hazardous or unpleasant elements, noise, crowds, confined/restricted but fire hazard approved desk spaces/rooms, and varying temperatures at the clinic.

    Compensation Information

    $150,000.00 / Annually - $250,000.00 / Annually
