Job Description
- Assess patients and safely perform routine radiographic procedures in accordance with prescribed safety procedures and protocols.
- Serve as a clinical mentor for junior staff and students.
- Verify physician order and procedure to ensure accuracy.
- Use radiology information systems to facilitate care.
- Explain procedures to patients to ensure understanding.
- Independently operate equipment to complete imaging procedures according to protocol (may include placement of nasogastric tubes, IVs, urinary catheters, and administration of contrast).
- Review patient images prior to transmission to ensure images meet diagnostic quality standards.
- Complete timely quality control procedures in accordance with regulatory standards and perform notification/remediation as warranted.
- Assist in the facilitation of departmental operations (inventory, staff schedules, equipment maintenance, etc.).
- Adapt behavior to the specific patient population, including respect for privacy and communication style.
- Perform other related duties as required.
Requirements
- Completion of an approved radiologic technology program.
- Registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist (ARRT) OR American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) registry eligible, registered by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) within 90 days of employment.
- Current unrestricted license in the state of practice.
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification from the American Heart Association.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Proficiency in using computers, software, and web-based applications.
- Effective verbal and written communication skills and ability to present information clearly and professionally.
- Strong interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work a flexible work schedule (e.g., 24/7, weekend, holiday, on-call availability) and travel throughout and between facilities.
Physical and Environmental Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Heavy work - exerting 50 to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 25 to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or 10 to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Duties performed routinely require exposure to blood, body fluid, and tissue. The incumbent works in a patient care area; works in an area where patients enter; works directly with patients; and/or works with specimens that could contain diseases. There may be an occupational risk for exposure to all communicable diseases.
