    Inpatient Oncology Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants

    We are urgently seeking 2 Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants for 4-6 months of inpatient oncology locums coverage in Chicago! These providers will be working a 3-12's schedule that includes every other weekend, with the other days during the week.

    Job Description

    • APP service line covered by an attending oncologist. Each provider carries 6-7 patients.
    • Covering medical leave and employee transfer - 2 providers needed for daytime coverage.
    • 3-12's daytime schedule, no call. Weekdays and every other weekend.
    • 6/7am - 6:30/7:30pm.

    Responsibilities

    • Manage leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, amyloid, and stem cell harvest admitted to the inpatient service. Manage daily labs, vitals, transfusions, and electrolyte replacement.
    • Manage acute oncologic emergencies, complications of malignancies, complications of relapsed disease, and chemotherapy side effect management.
    • Admit and discharge patients.
    • Work with an interdisciplinary team to coordinate discharge plans for patients for follow-up in the outpatient setting (social work, PT/OT, consult services, nursing staff, patient placement, fellows, residents, pharmacists, multiple attendings, outpatient teams).
    • Perform bone marrow biopsies and skin punch biopsies.
    • Present patients to attending and coordinate care plans with pharmacists and care team. Consult specialty services as needed.
    • Answer pages from nursing staff, communicate handoff to morning and night APP coverage. Manage movement of patients from the ED and two teaching services.
    • Provide end-of-life care, goals of care discussions, communicate updates to family, educate patients and families about malignancy, treatments, health status updates, and safe at-home practices.

    Requirements

    • Active IL license.
    • Acute Care NP certification for Nurse Practitioners.
    • Experience managing leukemia, lymphoma, multiple myeloma, amyloid, and stem cell harvest admitted to the inpatient service. Manage daily labs, vitals, transfusions, and electrolyte replacement.
    • Experience managing acute oncologic emergencies, complications of malignancies, complications of relapsed disease, and chemotherapy side effect management.
