    MRI Technologist

    Join our team at Main Hospital Building, located on the 2nd floor, where we are dedicated to providing quality Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) services. This position offers a weekend schedule, with shifts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday from 7:00 AM to 7:30 PM, and includes weekend shift differentials.

    Job Description

    • Perform computerized magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) procedures on assigned patients to ensure that scanning needs are met, including all neuro, body, and musculoskeletal exams.
    • Review physician orders and assess their applicability to the MRI protocol.
    • Screen patients for MRI safety and review any contraindications for exams, including implants, metallic devices, or other foreign objects that may prohibit or modify the MRI exam.
    • Consult with radiologists to determine appropriate sequences and parameters if modification of an MRI protocol is necessary.
    • Document changes appropriately in the electronic health record.
    • Schedule other resources as needed.
    • Conduct patient interviews (using two patient identifiers), screening, and obtain medical history pertinent to procedures.
    • Explain procedures and instruct patients on necessary requirements for providing diagnostic images.
    • Answer questions regarding procedures and IV contrast for relevant exams.
    • Assist physicians as needed in performing procedures.
    • Ensure that images and records are properly completed with patient identification data and appropriate labeling.
    • Utilize technical knowledge and skills to perform procedures accurately and in a timely manner in accordance with age-specific criteria.
    • Complete exam charges and image documentation promptly.
    • Administer contrast material in the correct dosage and route, observing patients for adverse reactions.
    • Perform post-processing on MRI systems and remote workstations, including 3-D rendering and calculation of T1 and T2 values.
    • Maintain patient confidentiality and ensure that all processes and procedures secure and protect all workstations in all work areas.
    • Respond to inquiries, calls, and emails in a timely and professional manner.
    • Communicate shift handoff regarding workflow issues with equipment or pending exams with oncoming staff.
    • Engage in equitable distribution of departmental workloads.
    • Participate in departmental Performance Improvement Programs, promoting Parkland Health's mission, vision, values, and its relationship to the work environment.
    • Collaborate as part of an interdisciplinary team in the care and service delivery process of patient care through effective communication with other service lines.
    • Prioritize exams with scheduling to ensure smooth workflow, minimize wait times, and address stat and urgent requests.
    • Maintain equipment by running quality assurance checks and notifying supervisors of maintenance needs.
    • Keep a record of quality assurance tests to ensure that equipment runs efficiently and effectively.
    • Maintain all passwords to each computer system.
    • Take responsibility for professional growth by attending seminars, reading relevant articles, and maintaining ARRT or ARMRIT certification while integrating this knowledge into the job as appropriate.
    • Maintain knowledge of applicable rules, regulations, policies, laws, and guidelines that impact the MRI area.
    • Develop effective internal controls that promote adherence to applicable state/federal laws and accreditation agency requirements.

    Requirements

    • Graduate of an accredited Radiology and/or MRI Program.
    • Must have 6 months of clinical experience in Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).
    • If not currently licensed with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) with a certification in MRI (MR), must have taken courses in MRI: physics, cross-sectional anatomy, and clinical experience.
    • Must obtain current ARRT certification in MRI (MR) within 6 months of hire. If not ARRT (MR) certified, must possess American Registry of MRI Technologists (ARMRIT) upon hire and obtain ARRT (MR) within 6 months of hire.
    • Must have a current Healthcare Provider (BLS Level) CPR course completion card prior to hire from one of the following: American Heart Association, American Red Cross Rescuer, or Military Training Network.
    • Must be able to complete 6-month on-the-job training for those obtaining ARRT-MRI certification.
    • Must demonstrate knowledge of MRI equipment, anatomy, physics, computer skills in word processing and database software, oral and written communication skills, time management, organizational skills, interpersonal skills, and patient-centered behaviors.
