    Surgical Technologist

    Responsible for handling the instruments, supplies, and equipment necessary during the obstetrical operations performed in the Operating Room located in the Labor and Delivery unit. The Surgical Technologist has an understanding of the procedure being performed and anticipates the needs of the surgeon. They possess the necessary knowledge and ability to ensure quality patient care during the operative procedure and are constantly vigilant for maintenance of the sterile field. Performs patient care duties under the direction of a registered nurse.

    Job Description

    • Handle instruments, supplies, and equipment during obstetrical operations in the Operating Room.
    • Anticipate the needs of the surgeon during procedures.
    • Ensure quality patient care during operative procedures.
    • Maintain a sterile field throughout the operation.
    • Perform patient care duties under the direction of a registered nurse.

    Requirements

    • High School diploma or GED equivalent.
    • Graduate from a Surgical Technologist training program or one year previous operating room experience as a Surgical/Delivery Room Technologist or three years of experience providing direct patient care in a clinical setting.
    • BLS certification required.
    • NRP certification preferred.
    • Preferred completion of a fetal monitoring workshop and an orientation to learn surgical asepsis.
