Paramedic, Emergency Department
Piedmont Eastside Medical Center is looking for positive, self-motivated, engaged individuals who are excited for growth to join our team in the Emergency Department. Our 38-bed Emergency Department sees an average of 160 patients a day presenting with various acuities. We are a primary Stroke and STEMI receiving facility capable of intervening and administering thrombolytics. The campus features two helicopter pads for utilization and five PODs in our department, where patients are assigned based on acuity.
We have Charge Nurses, ED Flow Coordinators, Paramedics, ED Techs, PCTs, Mental Health Technicians, and Unit Secretaries who work in close collaboration with the ED Providers to provide exceptional care. All staff members must have BLS certification to work in this unit.
Job Description
- The Paramedic, under the supervision of the Professional Registered Nurse and/or Physician, is responsible for facilitating age-appropriate, culturally and ethnically sensitive care, maintaining a safe environment, educating patients and their families, collecting information, communicating effectively, and utilizing technology.
- Participate in the assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation of the delivery of health care services and tasks.
- Advocate for patients, teach, improve performance, and oversee unlicensed personnel.
Key Responsibilities
- Must have a working knowledge of intramuscular, sublingual, oral, rectal, nebulizers, intravenous, and intravenous push medications—effects, side effects, drug interactions, and anaphylaxis protocol.
- Working knowledge of the body's systems including neurological, respiratory, cardiac, gastrointestinal, and primary and secondary trauma assessment.
- Strong customer service and interpersonal skills; able to work with a team.
- Responsible for providing safe patient care with an understanding of age-appropriate and culturally aware needs.
- Able to assess a patient's needs and respond to direction from the Professional Registered Nurse and Physician.
- Perform EKGs.
- Perform Foley catheters.
- Start IVs, IOs & draw blood.
- Transport patients to other departments.
- May be required to monitor patients for arrhythmias and report abnormal rhythms and changes immediately to Charge Nurse and Nurse.

Requirements
- Minimum education required: High school graduate or equivalent.
- Minimum experience required: None.
- Minimum licensure/certification required by law: Current certification as a Paramedic in the State of Georgia required; National Registry preferred.
- Additional qualifications: BLS certification; must be ACLS certified or able to become certified immediately.
