    Oncology Nurse

    This position will serve to support our affiliation with Roswell Park Cancer Care. Located at the Main Hospital Campus, this role operates Monday to Friday from 7:30 AM to 4 PM. Oncology and chemotherapy experience is preferred.

    Job Description

    • Plan and provide nursing interventions for individuals with cancer and cancer-related health care problems.
    • Treat human responses to actual or potential health problems through patient care, health teaching, and health counseling.
    • Execute medical regimens prescribed by a physician or other licensed health care provider authorized by the state of New York.
    • Administer chemotherapy agents, pre-medications, and non-oncology infusions.
    • Assess lab results and vital signs.
    • Obtain vascular access via Peripheral IV, A-port, or PICC line.
    • Provide patient education on discharge/post-treatment.
    • Enter tumor and registry data.
    • Track patients for oral chemotherapy and Mediport maintenance.
    • Monitor and evaluate patients throughout infusion.
    • Complete treatment plans and perform phone triage.
    • Adhere to all regulatory requirements and professional standards such as ONS as applicable to the specific area of nursing practice.
    • Perform nursing assessments that include the holistic needs of each patient, considering physiological, psychological, social, ethnic, cultural, educational, and spiritual strengths and needs.
    • Ensure that patient safety is a priority goal in the delivery of healthcare.
    • Provide direct patient care activities with other professional disciplines to ensure that the plan of nursing intervention is consistent with and integrated with the total treatment plan.
    • Administer medications and IV fluids in a safe and efficient manner following established policies and procedures.
    • Demonstrate knowledge of dosage, route, action, side effects, contraindications, and adverse reactions of medication.
    • Provide health education/teaching for patients and their designated significant others.
    • Confer with nursing staff and other members of the healthcare team regarding the condition of patients and/or any unusual events or problems to ensure continuity of care.
    • Adhere to the RPCI Oncology, PC standard for Employee Conduct.

    Other Duties

    • Protect patient's privacy, confidentiality, and their rights as health care consumers.
    • Demonstrate an understanding of and compliance with HIPAA regulations.
    • Comply with and be knowledgeable of Institute and department policies/procedures and standards of care.
    • Complete and maintain certification for the Chemotherapy/Biotherapy Course.
    • Acquire and/or maintain the necessary education and skills required to address competencies.
    • Attend/completes required mandatory in-services on an annual basis.
    • Attend education programs relevant to the special needs of assigned patient population, new products, equipment, policies/procedures, and clinical care.
    • Enhance professional growth and development by participating in educational programs, reading current literature, and participating in in-service meetings and workshops.
    • Attend meetings as required.

    Requirements

    • Graduation from an accredited school of nursing and current licensure in the State of New York.
    • OCN Certification preferred.
    • Maintains current BLS/CPR certification.
    • Participates in orientation and continuing education to update and maintain knowledge and skills related to specific areas of expertise.

    Work Environment

    Clinical setting. Exposure Class I.

    Physical Demands

    Medium work: must be able to lift 25 pounds frequently; occasionally lifting a maximum of 50 pounds. Will require ability to stand, walk, sit, bend, twist, squat, and reach.

    Supervised By

    Team Leader, Clinical Coordinator, Practice Manager, and Clinical Services/Nursing Administration.

    Pay Range

    $33.00 - $45.70. Pay is based on experience, skills, and education. Exempt positions under the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA) will be paid within the base salary equivalent of the stated hourly rates. The pay range may also vary within the stated range based on location.
