    Job Description

    • Diagnose and surgically treat complex conditions of the chest, including the lungs, esophagus, chest wall, diaphragm, airway, and mediastinum.
    • Conduct consultations; obtain and analyze medical histories; order and interpret diagnostic tests; educate patients and families on diagnoses, treatment options, and surgical risks/benefits.
    • Perform advanced thoracic operations, including lung and esophageal tumor resections, airway procedures, diaphragm/chest wall reconstruction, and management of trauma.
    • Lead care before, during, and after surgery including ICU/step down rounding, pain control, complication prevention/management, and timely discharge planning.
    • Work closely with oncology, pulmonology, cardiology, gastroenterology, radiation oncology, critical care, radiology, pathology, and palliative care to deliver coordinated, patient-centered care.
    • Adhere to evidence-based protocols; ensure accurate, timely documentation and coding; engage in morbidity & mortality review and quality improvement.
    • Teach residents/APPs (if applicable), participate in tumor boards and service line meetings, and contribute to protocol development.
    • Maintain CME, board certification/eligibility, and competency in evolving techniques (including minimally invasive and robotic platforms).

    Requirements

    • MD/DO from an accredited institution.
    • Completion of Cardiothoracic/Thoracic Surgery Fellowship (ACGME-accredited).
    • VATS required; robotic techniques preferred.
    • Licensure: Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts; BC/BE eligible in Thoracic/Cardiothoracic Surgery.
