Physician Assistant - Hematology/Oncology
Long Island's premier academic medical center, Stony Brook Medicine, represents Stony Brook University's entire medical enterprise and serves Southampton Hospital and Phillips Family Cancer Center in Southampton. The APP will report to the Division Chief of Hematology/Oncology. Responsibilities may include all or some of the following:
Job Description
- Independently assess and evaluate patients with benign hematology issues including anemia, cytopenias, and simple coagulopathies and hypercoagulable states at PFCC.
- Provide outpatient follow-up for oncology and hematology consultations and patients.
- Provide cross coverage for infusion center when needed including managing and treating infusion reactions.
- Provide Southampton Hospital coverage as needed.
- Write orders for chemotherapy and renew prescriptions.
- Review, evaluate, and make recommendations regarding laboratory findings for patients.
- Manage outpatient phone calls including toxicity assessments and recommendations.
- Provide coverage and management for sick walk-ins.
- Educate patients and family members regarding their diagnoses and therapies.
- Participation in tumor boards.
- Rotational weekend and post-hours phone coverage.
- Knowledge of basic software packages and hospital information systems (EMR).
- Additional responsibilities may also be required as the position evolves over time.
Requirements
- NYS license and certification as a Physician Assistant.
- Bachelor's degree (foreign equivalent or higher) from an accredited school of Physician Assistants.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in the management and treatment of cancer and hematology patients.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Experience with chemotherapy.
