    Primary Care Physician

    Seeking a Board Eligible MD or DO in Internal Medicine or Family Practice for a Monday through Friday, 40-hour work week, Primary Care Contract at the VA Battle Creek's Wyoming, MI CBOC. Lodging is paid up to $2000 per month, and there is a $1000 annual travel allowance. The contract duration is 6 months to 1 year, with confirmed nursing support at this CBOC.

    Job Description

    • Responsible for outpatient clinical operations as clinical representatives of the Medical Center Director and Chief of Staff.
    • Evaluate new and returning outpatients as assigned for the Battle Creek VA Medical Center Wyoming MI.
    • Provide patient care for approximately 8-15 outpatients per hour allotted for follow-up and 1 hour for new patients during the regular work week schedule.
    • Conduct patient medical history and physical exams appropriate to the care setting and document in accordance with Battle Creek VA Medical Center Staff Bylaws.
    • Complete appropriate evaluation and paperwork for special incidents such as medication errors, falls, injuries, and adverse drug reactions.
    • Conduct oneself in a professional and ethical manner, treating patients, visitors, and staff courteously.
    • Ensure patient rights are not violated and prevent allegations of patient abuse.
    • Provide preventive health and goal-oriented treatment.
    • Refer patients to other specialty care as required according to service agreements and current legislation.
    • Prescribe medications as needed, utilizing the VA formulary, and submit non-formulary requests when necessary.
    • Maintain a DEA controlled substance registration certificate for prescribing Schedule II through Schedule V controlled substances.
    • Complete medication reconciliation during each patient encounter in the clinic and document allergy assessments when medications are prescribed.
    • Order labs, imaging, and other pertinent tests.
    • Conduct initial screening of patients to determine eligibility.
    • Complete and sign clinical records in a timely manner, trained on the proper use of various VA systems including Vista and CPRS.
    • Comply with Medical Center requirements to use the Emergency Department Integration System (EDIS) when working in urgent care.
    • Utilize performance metrics outlined in the Emergency Medicine Management Tool (EMMTT) for tracking compliance.
    • Document findings from assessments or reassessments clearly in the medical record for interdisciplinary care team use in care planning and treatment.
    • Ensure all required documentation is completed within Battle Creek VA Medical Center required timeframes.
    • Complete all required medical record documentation, including discharge summaries and patient instructions when the contract physician is the only practitioner involved in patient care during their stay.
    • Provide technical and/or professional support for residents, physicians, nurse practitioners, and physician assistants employed by the VA.
    • Coordinate, evaluate, treat, and manage overall medical care for eligible Veterans evaluated and treated within the clinic.
    • Arrange appropriate referral transfer of Veterans for care that cannot be delivered in the Battle Creek VA Medical Center clinical setting.
    • Ensure medical record documentation contains minimum information in congruence with Health Care Financing Administration/Medicare guidelines supporting patient care.
    • Perform other work within the scope of clinical privileges in the Battle Creek VA Medical Center Clinic.
    • Maintain current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
