    Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA)

    A community services organization in New York City is looking to add a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) to join their growing team at one of their group homes on Staten Island.

    Job Description

    • Setting: Article 16 Clinic / Group Homes
    • Schedule: Monday to Friday
    • Hours: 9am to 5pm or 8am to 4pm
    • Patient Population: Adults (Ages 18+)
    • EMR: PrecisionCare

    Responsibilities

    The Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) will:

    • Review medical records, verify MDs orders and the Occupational therapist's assessment prior to implementing OT treatment
    • Communicate with supervisor regarding persons receiving services in the areas of cognitive/perceptual skills, sensor-motor, musculoskeletal status, CNS status, the use of assistive technology and adaptive equipment needs
    • Integrate input from persons receiving services, family, and direct care staff in treatment
    • Write specific, objective, and measurable documentation
    • Provide training to persons receiving services, families and/or direct care staff in specific supportive programs
    • Participate and attend care plan/team meetings as needed for persons receiving OT services
    • Implement a treatment plan, generated by the OT, including ROM, therapeutic exercise, cognitive/perceptual re-training, ADL, wheelchair mobility, pre-vocational skills, and application of physical agent modalities: hot packs, cold packs, and paraffin
    • Perform other duties, as needed

    Requirements

    • Graduation from an accredited Occupational Therapy school
    • NYS Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) license

    Desired Skills

    • Experience with wheelchair assessment
    • Experience working with people with intellectual and developmental disabilities
