Anesthesiologist Assistant and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist

Job Description
- Perform a pre-anesthetic assessment, discuss anesthetic management, and administer anesthesia, all with the consultation of an appropriate staff anesthesiologist in accordance with accepted standards of professional practice and licensing laws.
- Assemble, prepare, and test needed supplies, equipment, and monitors prior to an anesthetic.
- Select, obtain, and administer the anesthetic plan of care, including induction, maintenance, and emergence phases of anesthesia.
- Administer various types of anesthesia, including inhalation, intravenous, spinal, epidural, and peripheral nerve blocks. All anesthesia is administered under the medical direction of staff anesthesiologists.
- Recognize alterations in physiologic responses to the surgical procedure and/or the anesthetic, take appropriate action, and notify the responsible physician as indicated.
- Transfer the patient to the appropriate postoperative area and assist in the postoperative care.
- Participate in the quality improvement activities and research initiatives within MHS.
Requirements
- Graduate of an accredited school with a bachelor's degree that includes the prerequisite premedical undergraduate science background.
- Graduate of a medical school-based anesthesiologist's assistant education program that is accredited by the Committee on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
- Current Certified Anesthesiologist Assistant (CAA) certification and recertification by the National Commission for Certification of Anesthesiologist Assistants (NCCAA).
- Current CAA Licensure from the Ohio State Medical Board.
- Current ACLS & BLS Certifications.
- Demonstrates current competency in the clinical responsibilities specified.
Physical Requirements
- Requires full range of motion; manual and finger dexterity and eye-hand coordination.
- Requires standing and walking for extensive periods of time and the ability to lift and transport patients.
- Requires corrected hearing and vision to normal range.
- Requires some exposure to communicable diseases or bodily fluids.
- Ability to work under extreme pressure.

Education Requirements

- Current Ohio RN Licensure.
- Graduate of a Masters or Doctoral nurse anesthesia program accredited by the Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs (COACRNA).
- Current Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) certification by the National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists (NBCRNA).
- Current ACLS & BLS Certifications.
