    Orthopedic Technician

    Join our team as an Orthopedic Technician, where you will demonstrate competence, caring, and compassion while performing technical and supportive patient care skills. This role incorporates the patient's plan of care, recognizes age-specific requirements, and follows approved policies and procedures.

    Job Description

    • Under the direction of a physician:

      • Apply cast - fiberglass and plaster
      • Fit braces - upper and lower extremity
      • Splints - upper and lower extremity
      • Molds for custom braces
      • Suture and staple removal
      • Assist with patient flow within assigned outpatient clinic setting
      • Accurately perform tests for blood glucose
      • Safely and properly prepare medications/injections
      • Provide explanations when obtaining vital signs or other technical skills
      • Use aseptic technique and infection control measures in the performance of duties
      • Measure and record intake and output as ordered
      • Prepare and assist with patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential care
      • Recognize patient care priorities, treatment plans, objectives, and potential crises
      • Under the direction of an RN, provide other treatments and care to patients appropriate to training as assigned
      • Recognize and communicate patient needs and unusual occurrences with patients/families
    • Accurately document and communicate interventions and measurements:

      • Communicate relevant information to appropriate health care provider
      • Under supervision, complete accurate, concise, and legible documentation on patient clinic record
    • Assist in the maintenance of equipment, supplies, and the environment:

      • Check equipment/supplies for expiration dates, electrical safety tags, intactness, and usability
      • Clean equipment and return it to its proper place
      • Report equipment and supplies needing replacement or repair
      • Stock rooms, carts, cabinets, etc. as assigned/requested
    • Practice positive customer and peer relations:

      • Consistently communicate in a professional and courteous manner
      • Report and seek assistance in dealing with guest complaints/concerns
      • Establish and maintain a positive rapport with patients/families and co-workers
      • Consistently respond to customer requests/needs in an appropriate manner
    • Respect and support patient rights:

      • Serve as patient/family advocate
      • Practice principles of patient and employee confidentiality
      • Utilize available resources and seek assistance in dealing with ethical dilemmas, as appropriate
    • Demonstrate acceptable productivity and practice cost containment:

      • Prioritize and complete all work in an effective and efficient manner
      • Demonstrate initiative, resourcefulness, and flexibility
      • Effectively and efficiently use time, equipment, and supplies
    • Function as an interdependent and supportive team member:

      • Provide support and assistance as appropriate
      • With direction, remain calm and purposeful and respond in an appropriate, professional manner in emergent or chaotic situations
      • Participate in clinic meetings/activities and support the clinical, departmental, and organizational philosophy and goals
      • Remain current on all in-service/education/credentials/certifications requirements for position, as appropriate
      • Exchange constructive feedback with peers and others
      • Conduct self-evaluation and participate in developmental goal setting
    • Assist in maintaining a clean and safe environment

    • Participate in and support continuous quality improvement activities at the clinic/departmental level

    • Accept responsibility for own growth/development

    Requirements

    • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
    • Two years of directly related orthopedic technician work experience or completion of one or more of the following combinations:
      • Orthopedic Tech/Prosthetics Tech Program with zero years of casting experience
      • Medical Assistant program with one year of casting experience
      • Nurse Assistant program with one year of casting experience
      • Medical Corpsman with one year of casting experience
      • EMT program with one year of casting experience
      • Current enrollment in a professional nursing program with completion of introductory nursing coursework and zero years of casting experience
    • BLS certification required

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Certified Orthopedic Technician

    Salary Range

    Actual salary commensurate with experience.

    Work Schedule

    On-site, Monday through Friday, 8 am to 5 pm, and as needed on occasion.
