  - Upon initiation by an RN or Provider, application of restraint or seclusion in an emergency situation in order to ensure the immediate physical safety of patients, staff or visitors when other less restrictive interventions have been deemed ineffective
  - Act as an observer for a restrained/secluded patient or at-risk patient requiring observation

**Job Description**

- Provides patient care as directed by emergency department (ED) RNs and Providers according to department established standards and procedures.
- Implements MD orders under supervision of an RN as allowed under this purpose description. The following list of skills and procedures is included:
  - Splint application
  - Wound irrigation and preparation for suturing
  - 12 lead EKGs
  - Foley catheter insertion
  - Venipuncture for the purpose of obtaining blood samples
  - Vascular access; inserting a peripheral intravascular catheter or intraosseous device
  - Administration of 0.9% NaCl flush as needed
  - Initiate and administer IV fluids as ordered under the direction of an RN or Provider
  - Point of care (POC) testing including glucose, urine dip, strep, and pregnancy testing, i-Stat testing of venous and arterial blood samples and blood alcohol testing via breathalyzer analysis
