**Job Description**

- The sleep technologist reports directly to the Medical Director or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders including in-center and out-of-center testing, diagnostic and therapeutic interventions, comprehensive patient care, and direct patient education.
- Promote healthy sleep hygiene practices to all patients taking into consideration each unique situation.
- Complete the ordered study following procedure protocols to ensure collection of appropriate data.
- Maintain equipment in proper working order by inspecting it before each test.
- Assist with inventory control procedures.
- Report broken equipment per Broadlawns Medical Center policies.
- Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make required adjustments.
- Follow a "lights out" procedure to establish and document baseline values (body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.).
- Perform data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free.
- Identify, correct, and document artifact.
- Follow a "lights on" procedure to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (repeat the physiological and instrument calibrations and instruct the patient on procedure for results follow-up, etc.).
- Document routine observations, including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and other significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results.
- Implement appropriate interventions such as positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, and any actions necessary for patient safety.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age-specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
- Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines.
- Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals, etc.) using AASM standards.
- Demonstrate the knowledge and skill necessary to perform portable monitoring equipment preparation and data download.
- Perform patient education and instruction appropriate for out-of-center sleep testing.
- Demonstrate adherence to cleaning and disinfection procedures for all sleep-related equipment.
- Send all completed tests to the Medical Director for interpretation of results.
- Identify areas for quality improvement and participate in departmental meetings, performance improvement projects, and community education programs.
