- Develop and implement individualized treatment programs for patients needing services. Review plan of care with patients and instruct them, family, and caregivers in home programs or exercises as appropriate.
- Use selected activities and/or tasks to promote and maintain health, achieve treatment goals, and establish and modify intervention strategies for patients' treatment programs based on ongoing evaluation.
- Provide direct therapy services to patients using various functional settings and strategies, planning therapy within the patient's individual physical, emotional, and intellectual capabilities as indicated and coordinated with rehabilitation, medical, and nursing care plans.
- Prepare documentation as required by the profession and the department, such as evaluation results, individualized treatment plans, progress notes, and other reports.
- Communicate effectively with the patient, family, physician, and other disciplinary team members regarding the patient's status, progress, and needs. Attend care conferences when applicable.
- Establish rapport and work cooperatively with interdisciplinary team members (including family/physician) throughout the patient's intervention program.
- Enhance professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, workshops, etc.
- Oversee physical therapy assistants, techs, and students in an efficient and effective manner that ensures safe patient care and smooth departmental operation.
- Maintain knowledge of proper use of equipment for patient care.
