We are also known as the Progressive Care Unit or PCU. Our unit is an intermediate unit that is a step down from our transitional care but a step above med/surg as far as patient acuity. We primarily serve cardiac patients, as well as those with acute respiratory needs (no vents but high flow oxygen needs/new BiPAP). 

This fast-paced unit combines aspects of the emergency department and intensive care unit, requiring and building strong assessment skills and teamwork.

- Significant impact on patient welfare; errors in determining patient condition or administering medication could be critical
- Must be able to handle emergencies without assistance and assist falling or fallen patients; must be able to perform CPR alone
- Individual homes may present poor lighting situations, exposure to pets and other allergens, pest infestations, and poor cleanliness
- Must be able to assess home situations for possible patient abuse
- May be required to drive at night and/or in hazardous conditions; must be able to follow written/verbal instructions and read a map
- Must independently schedule patient visits in a timely and efficient manner; checking in with the office daily to update schedule
- Regular contact with agency staff members, physicians, hospital or medical center staff, and the general public; regularly handles confidential information
