Arcata is located on the beautiful Northern California Redwood Coast approximately 80 miles south of the Oregon border. San Francisco is approximately 5 hours south. This community celebrates a rich heritage with stately Victorians and historical facts that live with them alongside quaint beach cottages in small coastal towns. 

Outdoor activities include river rafting, kayaking, and fishing on one of six rivers, beachcombing along a beautiful shoreline, surfing, bird watching, whale watching between March and June, year-round golf with friends, or simply visiting the wildlife habitat or our botanical gardens. 

Our school system is greatly enhanced by the presence of Humboldt State University, which offers a creative Performing Arts Center featuring theater, concerts, lectures, children's enrichment programs, etc. There are also distinguished Blue Ribbon-awarded public schools as well as innovative and successful charter and private schools.
