- Provide direct care to patients and families through their cancer journey.
- Manage patient symptoms with support of provider, provide treatment education to patients and families, and help patients with oncology-related questions.
- Support the Oncology Care team and help guide decisions for patients, guide patients to the resources available, and see patients at frequent intervals through their care.
- Organize patient care in a Care Team model with the support of multiple disciplines.
- Accountable for the coordination of nursing care, including direct patient care, patient/family education, and transitions of care.
- Support professional nursing practice across practice settings and across the continuum of care to meet the needs of the patient and family.
- Function within the Mayo Clinic Nursing Professional Practice Model, which includes accountability for planning, implementing, evaluating, and communicating all phases of nursing care for assigned patients.
- Provide leadership through activities such as preceptor role, informal and formal leadership roles, and quality improvement efforts.
- Delegate patient care according to skill level, experience, patient acuity, fiscal accountability, and availability of resources.
