**Neonatologist**

**Job Description:**

- Round on all NICU babies
- Attend high-risk deliveries (typically 6-7 shifts/month)
- Back up the Pediatric Hospitalist as requested
- Attend High-Risk Follow-up Clinic once per month for a half day
- Attend Medical Staff Meetings (General, Peds, Perinatal M&M)
- Serve on Medical Staff Committees as requested (usually 1 committee)
- Cover 10 shifts/year at 2nd facility: UCSF Benioff Children's Hospital, Oakland

**Details:**

- Level 3 16-bed NICU
- All high-risk deliveries
- High-risk deliveries >35 weeks are shared between the Hospitalists and the Neonatologists
- NICU averages about 170 admissions per year
- Average daily census is approximately 7-8
- The NICU manages infants >28 weeks gestation and provides short-term conventional ventilation and BCPAP
- Typically 7-8 hrs a day are spent doing NICU care with roughly 4-6 hrs being on rounds and the remainder attending high-risk deliveries
