Dental Hygienist
Job Description:
- Perform moderately complex dental hygienist work
- Clean, scale, and polish teeth
- Conduct educational programs for the prevention of dental diseases
- Provide services to clinic patients according to established policies and standards
- Administer local anesthetic to patients
- Prepare patients for dental hygiene treatment by welcoming, soothing, seating, and draping them
- Maintain hygiene operatory and instrumentation by sharpening, sterilizing, and selecting instruments
- Select materials and equipment by evaluating patients' oral health
- Complete dental prophylaxis by cleaning deposits and stains from teeth and beneath gum margins
- Detect disease through oral cancer screening and periodontal assessments
- Take x-rays and provide chair-side assistance as needed
- Apply pit and fissure sealant, fluoride, and varnish
- Arrest dental decay by applying cavity-preventing agents
- Educate patients on oral hygiene, plaque control, and postoperative care
- Document dental hygiene services by recording vital signs and medical and dental histories
- Maintain patient confidence and protect operations by keeping information confidential
- Ensure a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies
Requirements:
- Education: Graduate of an accredited dental hygiene program, licensed to practice in the State of Wisconsin
- Experience: Knowledge of dental disease prevention techniques and public health dental programs
- Expertise: Skill in using dental tools and equipment, ability to clean and care for human teeth, expose and develop X-rays, and maintain records
- Language: Basic comprehension and use of written or spoken language to communicate information and ideas
- Hours of Work: May vary based on organizational need
- Travel: May vary based on organizational need
- License/Certification: Registered Dental Hygienist (Required)
