    Job Description

    • Administer basic and advanced life support to care for sick and injured persons in a pre-hospital setting.
    • Initiate treatment in accordance with BLS and ALS clinical standards of practice, company policies, Statewide Treatment Protocols, and medical control physician orders.
    • Determine the nature and extent of illness or injury to establish and prioritize medical procedures.
    • Administer initial treatment at emergency scenes.
    • Provide medical examination and screening of patients consistent with approved protocols.
    • Assist in extricating trapped victims and transport sick and injured persons to treatment centers.
    • Observe, record, and report to physicians the patient's conditions and reactions to drugs, treatments, and significant incidents.
    • Direct and coordinate patient care between interagency personnel and other company employees.
    • Communicate with physicians and other medical personnel via radio or telephone, administering additional care as directed by emergency room medical and nursing staff.
    • Communicate with patients, their families, and others at the scene in a courteous and professional manner.
    • Complete necessary patient and company paperwork in accordance with company policy.

    Transport Vehicle and Equipment Use

    • Drive vehicle to address or location given, using the safest and most expeditious route dictated by traffic and weather conditions.
    • Properly load, secure, and transport patients in accordance with company policy.
    • Transport and accompany patients to the receiving facility while monitoring and treating them during transport.
    • Complete vehicle and equipment checklists to ensure the ambulance is properly stocked and ready for service.
    • Lift and place patients on stretchers, restrain them appropriately, and move loaded stretchers into the ambulance.
    • Drive ambulances to and from emergency and non-emergency scenes considering the safety of self and others.

    Requirements

    • Associate's degree; or one to two years related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience preferred.
    • Certification as a Paramedic in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
    • Certification in Basic Life Support (CPR).
    • Certification in Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
    • Certification in Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS).
    • Valid motor vehicle operator license with satisfactory driving history.
    • Successfully complete required training programs in Hazmat, MCI Management (NIMS 100 & 700) prior to completion of classroom orientation.

    Benefits
