Emergency Medicine Physician
Locum need for Board Certified Emergency Medicine provider in Polacca, AZ (Open to any state license). Board Certified Emergency Medicine physicians are needed to provide emergency medicine care at a comprehensive Indian Health Service facility in the Southwest. This facility is in Polacca, AZ, in a rural, tribal community in Northeastern Arizona. The facility has about 13,500 annual patient visits and offers 24 hours of physician coverage.
Job Description
- Provide emergency medicine care at a comprehensive Indian Health Service facility
- Manage approximately 20-30 patients per day and 10-20 patients per night
- Operate in a 7-bed emergency department with solo coverage and no APP backup
- Utilize RPMS for electronic medical records
- Work 12-hour shifts from 7a-7p or 7p-7a
- Handle major trauma, acute surgical emergencies, and high-risk obstetric patients, transporting them to Flagstaff Medical Center as needed
Requirements
- ABEM certified
- ATLS, ACLS, BLS, PALS certifications
- Active, unrestricted license and DEA from any state or US territory
- No lapse in practice greater than 6 months leading up to assignment
- Annual Covid and Flu vaccination or exemption
Community Overview
The location has approximately 13,500 annual patient visits, with 7,000 from Hopi and Navajo tribes. Strong Navajo and Hopi cultural traditions exist within the communities, offering an opportunity to learn the Navajo and Hopi languages or to learn about traditional Native American medicine. The service units are located near the Grand Canyon National Park, providing excellent opportunities for photography and outdoor recreation. The nearest airports are Flagstaff Pulliam Regional (2-hour drive) and Albuquerque International Airport (4-hour drive).
The emergency room operates like a free-standing ER 24 hours a day, and Sexual Assault Nurse Examiners (SANE) responders are always available with specialty services.
