Regional Psychiatrist: Department of Corrections

Join our team as a Regional Psychiatrist in Richmond, Virginia, where you will provide psychiatric assessment and treatment to mentally ill inmates within the Department of Corrections. This full-time position offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact in a correctional setting.

Job Description

• Provide psychiatric assessment and treatment to mentally ill inmates.
• Perform initial and ongoing psychiatric assessments.
• Prescribe appropriate medication and/or mechanical measures to assist inmates in improving behaviors.
• Assist with preparation and modification of treatment plans and recommend and assign inmates to appropriate programs.
• Provide supervision to psychiatric providers at the institution.

Requirements

• Graduate from an accredited medical school.
• Completion of an approved psychiatric residency program.
• Licensed to practice medicine in the state of Virginia; M.D./D.O.
• Extensive knowledge of the information and techniques needed to diagnose and treat mentally ill inmates.
• Knowledge of professional and ethical standards of practice and interventions appropriate for the assigned population.
• Ability to function effectively as a member of an interdisciplinary treatment team.
• Strong communication skills orally and in writing/e-mail.

Additional Considerations

• Specialty in Forensic or Addiction care.
• Board Certification.
• Experience providing mental health care in a correctional setting.
