General Job Responsibilities:
- Provide expert care for patients with injuries and disorders affecting bones, joints, muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.
- Conduct a wide range of orthopedic surgeries, including fracture repair, joint replacement, arthroscopy, and soft tissue repair.
- Provide emergency care for traumatic injuries requiring immediate surgical intervention.
- Manage conditions through non-invasive techniques, such as medication or physical therapy, when appropriate.
- Provide patient education about conditions, treatment options, and post-care management strategies.
- Collaborate with a multidisciplinary team to develop and implement patient care plans.
- Maintain accurate and thorough medical records.
Skills:
- Proficient in performing a variety of both minimally invasive and complex orthopedic procedures.
- Ability to assess and diagnose musculoskeletal issues accurately and develop appropriate treatment plans.
- Capability to make quick, informed decisions during surgery and in emergency situations.
- Strong communication skills to explain complex medical information to patients.
- Excellent manual dexterity and precision.
- Flexibility to adapt to new work environments and different medical teams.
Minimum Education Requirements:
- Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree or Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine (DO) degree from an accredited medical school.
- Residency training program in orthopedic surgery accredited by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) or the American Osteopathic Association (AOA).
License & Certifications:
- Board certification in orthopedic surgery from the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery (ABOS) or the American Osteopathic Board of Orthopedic Surgery (AOBOS).
- Active and unrestricted medical license in New Mexico.
Experience:
- While specific requirements may vary, most locum orthopedic surgeon positions prefer candidates with at least one year of experience providing care in a clinical setting.
