Coding Manager
Join our team at Kent Campus Hospital as a Coding Manager. This full-time position offers a dynamic work environment where you will play a crucial role in ensuring accurate medical coding for all patient types.
Job Description
- Systematically review medical coding for all patient types to ensure timely and accurate submission, especially for DRG-dependent reimbursements.
- Manage and oversee the entire coding process for Bayhealth inpatient and outpatient services.
- Manage the E/M level code assignment for the Emergency Departments.
- Randomly review accounts to ensure the most appropriate MS-DRG for inpatients, APGs for Day Surgery, and the most appropriate diagnosis/procedure codes on outpatients are assigned.
- Perform daily monitoring of essential queues for timely coding of records.
- Demonstrate knowledge of DRG payor issues, documentation opportunities, clinical documentation requirements, and coding requirements.
- Perform audits of coding staff to evaluate documentation for accurate DRG assignment, risk of mortality, and severity of illness.
- Evaluate physician queries created for coding clarification.
- Interpret statistical and narrative analysis reports of department services to ensure appropriate and timely coding.
- Manage Health Information Management coding staff.
- Maintain accurate budget data and monitor coding staff productivity.
- Develop and provide education to physicians and others to improve coding outcomes.
- Perform liaison duties with EPIC to evaluate software updates and assist with testing of software changes.
- Complete all other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Requirements
- Education: Associate Degree in a related field; or two (2) years of additional experience may be considered in lieu of a degree.
- Credential(s): Certified Coding Specialist.
- Experience: Required: 5 years' experience in an acute care hospital setting, 5 years coding experience.
Preferred Requirements
- Education: Bachelor Degree in Health Care or Health Information Technology or related field.
- Experience: Preferred: 5 years supervisory experience in an acute care hospital setting, 10 years coding experience.
