Collegiate Nursing Care Technician
The Collegiate Nursing Care Technician (CCT) position at Bayhealth is designed for student nurses in an ADN or BSN accredited Nursing Program who have successfully completed at least one semester of a medical/surgical clinical rotation. The position is year-round and provides exposure and experience in an acute care setting in preparation for a career as a professional nurse. The CCT position is similar to the certified nurse assistant with duties including basic patient care, vital signs, blood glucose testing, hygiene, assistance with activities of daily living (ADLs), and comfort measures while working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Job Description
- Follows the plan of care established by the Registered Nurse within a specified timeframe, including but not limited to mouth care, bathing, AM and PM care, assistance with ambulation, transfers to chair and/or bed, taking and documenting vital signs, and recording accurate intake and output. Documents all patient care delivered according to established policies and procedures.
- Under the direction of a Registered Nurse, duties such as non-sterile dressing changes, wound irrigation, foley catheter irrigation, application of ace wraps, IV access removal, bladder scans, EKGs, and the application of telemetry monitoring may be assigned.
- Performs duties with the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of patients served on the assigned units.
- Communicates relevant patient information to a professional nurse within an appropriate time based on the level of urgency. Reports problems immediately to a professional nurse.
- Answers intercom or call lights in a timely, courteous manner, with appropriate communication to the patient and/or professional nurse.
- Performs patient care based on established guidelines for diagnostic and therapeutic exams; e.g., NPO for labs or X-rays, OR, diet changes related to tests, enema-related tests.
- Assists other members of the nursing team and/or ancillary departments as requested.
- All other duties as assigned within the scope and range of job responsibilities.
Requirements
- Education: High School Diploma or GED; Associate Degree; must be actively enrolled as an ADN or BSN Nursing Student who has completed one rotation of medical surgical clinical in an acute care setting.
- Credential(s): Basic Life Support.
- Experience: Required: Completion of one semester of Medical Surgical Clinical.
Preferred Education, Credential(s) and Experience
- Education: Certified Nursing Assistant.
- Experience: Preferred: Two semesters experience providing basic care to patients in a clinical setting.
