Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist
Join our team at Kent Campus Hospital as a Lead Medical Laboratory Scientist. This full-time position offers an opportunity to contribute to the operational and technical management of our laboratory services.
Job Description
- Assist the Laboratory Section Supervisor and/or Laboratory Manager in the operational and/or technical management of assigned section(s) by ensuring proper day-to-day operations of the laboratory discipline(s) and serving as a resource person for problem-solving.
- Respond to changes in workload as necessary and lead adjustments in work assignments in real-time in the absence of the supervisor.
- Ensure appropriate and timely specimen handling, delivery, specimen testing, results reporting, and customer service are provided efficiently and cost-effectively in accordance with laboratory and hospital policies and procedures.
- Perform all procedures within prescribed turnaround times and conduct proficiency testing with thorough and timely documentation.
- Demonstrate the ability to appropriately prioritize work at all times and call all critical/significant values as soon as available, documenting actions per protocol.
- Enforce adherence to protocols by others and perform tasks of Medical Laboratory Scientist as needed during peak workload periods.
- Demonstrate fiscal responsibility by utilizing supplies appropriately to avoid wastage, taking inventory, and ordering section supplies to ensure adequate stock.
- Assign tasks to staff scheduled in their section on a daily basis and be responsible for training and competency of students and section personnel with appropriate documentation.
- Embrace a culture of safety by ensuring all Infection Control/Safety protocols are followed at all times.
- Review applicable regulatory standards and bring any instances of non-compliance to the attention of the section supervisor.
- Perform, analyze, and report statistical analysis of data, including linearity studies, calibrations, and patient correlations per protocol.
Requirements
- Education: Bachelor’s Degree; Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), and one semester (one quarter) of mathematics. (Or Associate’s Degree in Medical Laboratory Technology for incumbents in position prior to 2005).
- Credential(s): Certified Medical Laboratory Scientist.
- Experience: Three years of relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or equivalent position in a high-complexity laboratory.
Preferred Requirements
- Education: Certification related to the position, if applicable.
- Experience: Five years of relevant experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, Medical Laboratory Technician, or equivalent position in a high-complexity laboratory.
