Job Description:
- Perform diagnostic ultrasound exams and interventional procedures on anatomical regions as per accepted standards and site radiologist protocols.
- Provide procedure-related patient care and education.
- Maintain records and documentation of procedures.
- Ensure the safety and comfort of all patients, operators, staff, and visitors.
- Work both independently and as part of a team.
Specific Responsibilities:
- Perform diagnostic sonographic imaging and differentiate between normal and pathologic findings.
- Assist radiologist in interventional procedures such as biopsies, aspirations, and drainage.
- Prepare preliminary reports and communicate with referring physicians when needed.
- Complete and sign patient screening forms and explain procedures to patients.
- Obtain necessary consent from patients before conducting procedures.
- Maintain patient care, comfort, and safety during exams.
- Ensure images and documentation are added to PACS promptly.
- Communicate scheduling changes with front desk staff.
- Deliver optimal customer service and patient care using AIDET service principles.
- Perform equipment quality checks and troubleshoot problems; call for service and notify management when necessary.
- Maintain and clean equipment and work area following decontamination procedures.
- Assist with daily operations of the ultrasound department.
- Inventory supplies and assist with timely ordering.
- Participate in maintaining ACR accreditation requirements for the ultrasound department.
- Attend and actively participate in department, team, and committee meetings.
- Comply with all company, department, and location-specific policies, procedures, and mandatory learning requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by radiologist and management.
Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Graduate from an accredited Diagnostic Medical Sonography Program required, CAAHEP accredited program preferred.
- Current ARDMS with certification in AB, OB required; certification in BR, VT preferred.
- Current American Heart Association (AHA) Healthcare Provider BLS required.
- Minimum 2-year clinical ultrasound experience preferred.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Detailed knowledge of current ultrasound scanning procedures and protocols.
- Proficient in PACS, Microsoft Office Suite, and using internet resources.
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to communicate findings to radiologist and interact positively with patients and family members.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with physicians, coworkers, patients, and families.
- Ability to maintain patience and tact with hostile and emotionally upset patients, family members, and visitors.
- Ability to coordinate work schedule with position requirements, including potential overtime.
