    Computed Tomography Technologist

This position involves performing diagnostic CT procedures within the CT Department utilizing specific equipment for that purpose. The role includes rotating through diagnostic radiology as assigned and performing all responsibilities outlined in the Computed Tomography (CT) Tech job description. You will be involved in the practice of radiation and general safety at all times.

    Job Description

    • Prepares room, equipment, and materials as needed for patient exams, including sterile technique. Cleans and disinfects rooms and equipment following each patient exam, using current infection control policies.
    • Performs examinations per physician's orders and explains procedures to the patients. Documents any variations from protocol due to the patient's condition or other unknown causes and relays patient history and clinical data to the radiologist.
    • Observes patients and equipment and reports any unusual occurrences or changes. Transports and assists patients as needed.
    • Documents status of patients in reference to radiology/CT procedure on the patient's chart.
    • Documents variances, repeats, and other occurrences to help maintain high-quality health care and opportunities for quality improvement.
    • Maintains stock supplies, performs general office duties, and is responsible for proper film labeling while following prescribed techniques to assure acceptable quality and consistency.
    • Practices safe radiation exposure and protection as well as general safety for patients, visitors, and staff at all times.
    • Participates in patient safety training and patient protection, including the needs and methods to report medical/healthcare errors and abuse.
    • Produces diagnostic quality images utilizing CT equipment and effectively judges CT images for proper technique to best demonstrate anatomy and pathology.
    • Performs diagnostic studies using mobile radiographic equipment in emergency or patient rooms as ordered by a physician. Performs diagnostic studies in the surgical suite with C-Arm and other equipment.
    • Provides care specific to the needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
    • May perform IV insertion/blood draws.
    • Administers IV/Oral/Rectal contrast for CT imaging procedures per radiologist protocol/department manual and ordering physician/care provider order.
    • Utilizes PACS to ensure exams are completed and available for the radiologist to read and for the referring physician/care provider review.

    Requirements

    • Certification in Radiography with the American Registry of Radiologic Technologist or Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the NMTCB.
    • Radiologic Technologist or Nuclear Medicine Technologist through the West Virginia Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy Technology Board of Examiners, or applicable state where services will be performed.
    • Obtain Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification within 30 days of hire.
    • Computed Tomography certification through the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists or NMTCB within 2 years of hire.
    • One (1) year of computed tomography experience.

    Physical Requirements

    • Frequent walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, and feeling are necessary body movements utilized in performing duties throughout the work shift.
    • Must be able to lift, move, and position patients of all weights, with varying amounts of assistance in a fair manner on a regular and recurring basis; exerting in excess of 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
    • Hearing and visual acuity must be within normal range.

    Working Environment

    • Exposure to body fluids, human tissues, contagious diseases, sharps, explosive gases, cleaning agents, and disinfectants on a daily basis.
    • Exposure to high stress and constant interruptions.
    • Exposure to ionizing and non-ionizing radiation.

    Skills and Abilities

    • Knowledge of growth and development, understanding of the patient's needs and scope of treatment.
    • Understands the dynamics for each patient incorporating biophysical, bio-psychosocial, environmental, self-care, educational, spiritual, cultural, ethical, and discharge planning needs.
    • Knowledge of total care of patients whose disease is not responsive to curative treatment, focusing on the control of pain and other symptoms.

    Additional Job Information

    Evening shift, including rotation of call and occasional weekend.
