    Job Description

    • Under the general supervision of the CT Scan Supervisor, the CT Technologist provides CT skills and initiatives to the department mission through interactions with staff and others as necessary.
    • Operates a CT (computed tomography) scanner to perform technologist duties as required and necessary for proper departmental workflow.
    • Performs appropriate studies as determined through policy and procedure, ensuring that exams requested match patient condition and/or history.
    • Prepares patients for exams as required and ensures patient comfort and modesty at all times.
    • Sets up equipment as necessary and uses proper imaging techniques, adjusting imaging factors when necessary to improve study or quality factors.
    • Completes procedures in a timely fashion while providing quality images for Radiology and outside departments.
    • Participates in intravenous (IV) training and passes all competencies required to start and administer IV contrast material under the general observation of a qualified physician.
    • Maintains equipment through interaction with both management and department service vendors to maximize equipment uptime, patient care, and minimize dollar impact to the hospital.
    • Provides patient-focused customer service and ensures that patient complaints are communicated professionally to the appropriate supervisor.
    • Monitors patients' conditions and takes action to facilitate the best course of care if assistance may be required.
    • Ensures that all required documentation is properly completed for billing purposes, including electronic orders and paperwork related to all procedures performed.
    • Works hours as regularly scheduled or according to the operational needs of the radiology department.

    Requirements

    • Must be a graduate of an approved school of Radiologic Technology by date of hire.
    • Work requires knowledge of principles and procedures of diagnostic radiology and CT, generally acquired through the completion of two years post-high school training in an approved school of radiologic technology.
    • MRST, AART required by date of hire. CT license preferred.
    • State license required and all applicable radiology education requirements.
    • Minimum 1-2 years experience in diagnostic radiology; experience in CT preferred.

    Knowledge and Skills

    • Must possess analytical abilities necessary to acquire and effectively utilize knowledge of imaging processes, techniques, procedures, and cross-sectional anatomy.
    • Working knowledge of Radiology Information Systems (RIS) and Hospital Information Systems (HIS).
    • Ability to rely on experience and judgment to plan and accomplish goals.
    • Must present a positive, team-oriented attitude and a professional appearance.
    • Must be physically capable of lifting heavy objects and patients, adhering to safety standards set forth by the Radiology Department, BMC, and other regulatory agencies.
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills sufficient to interact effectively with patients, instruct students, and interact with other staff technologists.
