    Pathologist's Assistant

    Join our dynamic team at CHA Cambridge Hospital, where we provide everything from routine blood and urine tests to special tissue evaluation. This full-time position offers a day shift from Monday to Friday, ensuring optimal patient care and the safety and efficiency of the Pathology Department.

    Job Description

    • Assist in the preparation of human surgical specimens under the direct supervision of the Lab Director and Associate Pathologist.
    • Accurately and efficiently provide gross descriptions of all surgical specimens.
    • Competently use Dragon Voice recognition and troubleshoot issues independently.
    • Create new templates for dictation for Dragon Voice.
    • Accurately dissect tissue and label cassettes for processing.
    • Complete worksheets for each specimen and ensure comments are transcribed correctly.
    • Perform frozen sections with staining and deliver slides within acceptable time limits.
    • Prepare touch preps and stains slides as needed.
    • Provide high-quality photographs of gross specimens and microscopic slides.
    • Deliver tissue, hardware, or other foreign bodies to doctors' offices or directly to patients as needed.
    • Participate in team efforts to efficiently complete all required department work within appropriate time intervals.
    • Actively participate in committee/task force team meetings as assigned and attend all department meetings.
    • Train new employees on policies and procedures of the department.

    Requirements

    • Minimum of a baccalaureate degree; degree in biomedical or health sciences preferred.
    • Completion of NAACLS accredited Pathologist's Assistant program required; Master's degree in Health Science preferred.
    • Current Pathologist's Assistant certification through the American Society for Clinical Pathology is required.
    • New certified graduates acceptable, but 3 or more years of experience in a clinical pathology setting preferred.
    • Must have dictation experience; experience with voice recognition preferred.
    • Knowledge of human anatomy and medical terminology, universal precautions, chemical safety guidelines, and basic laboratory safety.
