Medical Assistant
This position is responsible for the provision of patient care under a Physician or Advanced Practice Nurse Practitioner according to state regulations and will be assigned to a mobile outreach unit. Works as part of a multidisciplinary team to enhance patient quality of life. Ensures that all documentation is compliant with professional and legal standards.
Job Description
- Greet and room patients into appropriate exam room on the mobile outreach unit.
- Collect the medical information from patient phone calls and walk-ins.
- Perform medical intake procedures including labs, vital signs, and history.
- Prepare patients for examinations.
- Prepare chart to include all diagnostic documentation as needed for patient care.
- Assist the physician during examinations.
- Explain medical procedures to patients.
- Administer injections.
- Perform Electrocardiograms.
- Conduct tests and procedures as directed, such as EKGs, venipunctures, urine dipsticks, glucometer, etc.
- Draw blood (Phlebotomy).
- Perform specimen processing.
- Clean exam rooms and sterilize medical instruments.
- Maintain temperature logs for all clinic refrigerators containing specimens and medications.
- Monitor patient flow after check-in.
- Practice safety, environmental and/or infection control methods.
- Document all patient information and results accurately in the patient's chart in a timely manner.
- Prepare and distribute reports within the clinic and to the health care team, as necessary.
- Prepare records/documents in response to requests from other health care providers.
- Request diagnostic test results from other health care providers.
- Provide assistance with referrals and coordinate services with other organizations, federal and local programs.
- Maintain complete and thorough documentation on research projects.
- Perform required medical procedures associated with research projects.
- Manage inventory and order clinical supplies.
- Collaborate with clinic team members to coordinate patient services.
- Promote and practice CAN's values and mission and adhere to all policies and procedures.
- Maintain confidentiality regarding patient and/or family in accordance with professional and departmental standards.
- Participate and strive to achieve CAN's SMART GOAL initiatives.
- Adhere to ethical and legal standards of practice.
- Promote and practice CAN Community Health Inc's mission and values and follow its policies and procedures.
- Ensure confidentiality is maintained by the entire team regarding patient/client information in accordance with HIPAA, professional and departmental standards.
Requirements
- Medical Assistant Certification issued by an accredited institution approved by the State of Florida, or a minimum of 3 years' experience working in a health care setting.
- CPR certified.
- Valid driver's license.
- Electronic Medical Records classes through SuccessEHS.
- HIV classes through local health departments or online.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required
- Demonstrates knowledge of HIV medical terminology, procedures, medications, and accepted treatment practices.
- Demonstrates knowledge of OSHA rules, regulations, and mandates to ensure compliance.
- Good communication and interpersonal skills with patients, visitors, and staff members.
- Ability to utilize problem-solving techniques, be a self-starter, work effectively, organized, and perform multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
Work Environment
This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, audio visual, telephones, photocopiers, filing cabinets, and fax machines.
Physical Requirements
- Neat, professional appearance.
- Requires full range of body motion including handling and lifting patients.
- Exert up to 50 lbs. of force occasionally, and/or 20 lbs. of force frequently, and/or up to 10 lbs. of force constantly to move objects, including the human body. Involves sitting, walking, and standing for brief periods of time.
- Requires expressing or exchanging ideas by means of spoken word, visual and auditory acuity.
Position Type/Expected Hours of Work
This position may require additional time above normal operating hours and on occasion weekend work.
Travel
This position will be assigned to staff our mobile medical unit. Travel will be primarily during the business day, although some out-of-area, weekend, and overnight travel may be expected. Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and have a valid driver's license.
