Psychiatrist - Inpatient
Location: Christiansburg, Virginia
Carilion Clinic and the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine are seeking a full-time Inpatient Psychiatrist at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center. You will oversee clinical leadership of a multidisciplinary treatment team providing quality psychiatric care to an acute, adult inpatient population. The typical case load is 10-12 patients daily with an average length of stay of 5-7 days.
The position includes an academic appointment at the Virginia Tech Carilion School of Medicine.
Job Description:
- Assessment, evaluation, and treatment of psychiatric illnesses
- Psychiatric medication evaluation and management
- Ordering diagnostic tests, medications, and other therapies and collaboration with consultants
- Timely completion of medical record documentation in accordance with hospital policies, procedures, regulatory standards, and guidelines
- Coordination and continuation of care for patients in adherence to state and federal guidelines and discharge planning
- Serving as an on-call physician when scheduled as needed
- Working with and supervising advanced practice providers
- Working with learners, medical students, PA students, and residents
Requirements:
- Degree from an accredited medical school
- ABPN board certification or eligibility
- Successful completion of accredited residency in Psychiatry
- Skilled in interpersonal communication, including the ability to effectively communicate with patients and families
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment
